“Alabaster heart”
In the Bible there’s a story about a woman who was living a sinful life and one day she came to Jesus. As Jesus was eating at the Pharisees house she came weeping and began to clean his feet with her hair. This was a sign of complete exposure, surrender and a desperation that became a deep down hunger for God. She then poured out her alabaster jar on his feet and continued to wash, weep and kiss His feet. The fragrance that lay within the jar was extremely valuable. She was pouring out all her family’s said “value” everything that she had -she poured it out.
Now as Jesus is eating with the Pharisees someone asked about the woman and Jesus said, “[44] Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. [45] You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. [46] You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. [47] Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven — for she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little.” Jesus shows in this that He doesn’t want perfection, He just wants our heart. A heart to be poured out and the scent of it would reach all that are around. That our lives be completely poured out, surrendered, exposed, so desperate that a deep hunger would rise within us that just like without food we would die without it.And I’d be lying if I said following him was cheap.
It cost everything. But it’s worth absolutely everything. GENZ leaders, We need to have an alabaster heart. Our heart posture needs to be one of surrender. A heart like the story. At the feet of Jesus. Exposed. Hungry. In humility. Let me ask you, are you living in a posture of surrender? Flooded in humility and stripped of pride? Approaching Jesus at his feet? Where’s your alabaster heart?
